
I first went diving in Wakatobi in 2011 and was immediately struck by the beauty of the underwater scenery, the reefs in this secluded corner of Indonesia are truly spectacular and should surely appeal to anyone who likes a slower pace of diving. This isn’t the kind of destination where you’ll be blasted by powerful currents or swept off exposed pinnacles, Wakatobi is more tranquil and serene. The reefs are rich and pristine and charactierised by abundant healthy corals and colourful reef fish. Wall diving is the norm and there’s lots to explore, you’ll see from the aerial photo above that the reef follows the coastline of the island and drops off to 100m plus in many parts – Wakatobi Dive Resorts’ house reef must be one of the finest in the world.
