This small group safari will focus on underwater photography skills. The safari will include diving in two spectacular destinations, around Bali and West Komodo, giving participants ample opportunity to work on their macro and wide angle photography skills. The tour will be led by an award winning photographer and photo journalist.
Step off the beaten path with us through remote provinces of eastern Indonesia as we show case the best diving in Bali and West Komodo. We’ve hand picked a selection of varied dive sites throughout this region to feature in this fully guided safari – from the wild and remote topography to the historical wrecks , diverse coral reefs and the chance of encounters with big fish that typify diving in Bali and West Komodo. We’ll begin on the eastern coast of Bali. From here we’ll explore local sites such as the magnificent Liberty Wreck now blanketed in colourful soft corals and home to a magnitude of Indo Pacific marine life large and small. During our dives we’ll get to enjoy the diverse wealth of marine life that diving in Bali has become known for including an abundance of critters and beautifully healthy reefs.
From Bali we’ll travel east to Sumbawa Island, West Komodo.. The remote and rugged landscape offers some of the finest diving you’ll find anywhere in Asia with magnificent reefs, manta cleaning stations and schooling big fish. Throughout this tour we also take time to get a taste for cultural Bali, all topped off with a chance to see the legendary Komodo Dragons.
This tour is fully guided by a member of the Dive Safari Asia team and professional underwater photographer.
This tour begins on Bali where we’ll spend 7 nights at the beautiful Scuba Seraya Resort, showing you the best of what this beautiful island has to offer. There are a number of reef dives peppered along the dramatic coastline. Highlights include Amed which plays host to decorated critters and invertebrates and healthy coral gardens whilst Seraya Secrets is found directly in front of our resort and offers superb muck diving opportunities with ghost pipefish, frogfish and nudibranchs. During our time here we’ll also get to explore the regions highlights above the surface with a half day land tour featuring beautiful rice terraces, traditional markets, water gardens and regal palaces.
We’ll then travel east to the beautiful and exclusive Kalimaya Dive Resort. It is the first dedicated dive resort in East Sumbawa Island and the only dive operator offering day trip diving to West Komodo Island, Gili Banta, and Sangeang Volcano. Kalimaya has a house reef which is a delight to dive. Some of the critters seen here include Bumblebee Shrimp, Rhinopia, Candy Crabs, Starry Night Octopus and Bobtail squid. Other dive sites in the area offer amazing varieties of life. Some sites are excellent for muck diving with wonderpus, frogfish, sevearal shrimps and crabs and nudibranchs regularly spotted. The topography of the area includes sloping reefs, sea mounts, walls, pinnacles and caverns. The variety of coral in the area is second-to-none and the reefs here provide perfect homes for everything from manta rays and reef sharks, to tropical reef fish, to turtles to invertebrates.
We’ll also take some time on the surface to explore the islands around Sumbawa where we’ll get close encounters with the legendary Komodo Dragons. Trekking is also on offer along verdant wilderness tracks that pass breathtaking white sand beaches.
