Sorido Bay Resort remains one of our favourite dive operations in Asia. After a visit in 2009 we were left in awe of the truly exceptional diving on offer, the incredible topside scenery and beautiful beach side accommodation
The resort has been designed with a traditionally Papuan feel combined with a little twist of luxury. Large spacious cottages sit next to a blue water lagoon and powder white sand beach. There’s a platform on the jetty with big comfy bean bags for relaxing in between dives and local Papuan artifacts and treasures add real character to the surroundings. Many of the local people involved in Sorido Bay Resort’s original construction are now employees and the management are genuinely committed to both sustainable tourism and conservation practices in Raja Ampat.
Raja Ampat diving is all about diversity, not only in terms of marine life. There is a wide range of topographical locations to be enjoyed here- you can dive walls, fringe reefs, caverns, blue water mangroves and current swept pinnacles all in the space of day. Combine this with arguably the richest reefs on the planet and a thriving pelagic and reef dwelling fish community and you have all the ingredients for a truly world class diving destination. Sorido Bay Resort is ideally located to experience all of this. The resorts house reef is consistently recognised by marine scientists to be home to more species of fish then anywhere they’ve dived before. Manta Sandy is a cleaning station just 30 minutes from the resort which regularly hosts large number of mantas, sometimes up to 10 at a time. There are also numerous reef dives that have left even the most experienced divers speechless, ourselves included.
