Samboja Lodge is a beautiful jungle lodge nestled in the canopy, offering magnificent views of dense tropical jungle. Some of the inhabitants of the area include orangutans, proboscis monkeys, macaques, sun bears, monitor lizards and hornbills, among others.
The lodge is part of the Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation, which rehabilitates and reintroduces orangutans to wild where possible, rescues sun bears, and preserves and rebuilds the forest. To date the foundation has bought and replanted secondary forest over 1800 hectors of land at Samboja.
Tastefully decorated, comfortably furnished and its well thought out design makes for a wonderful stay at this 11 room lodge. The rooms, restaurant and relaxing areas have balconies with beautiful canopy views, breathtaking. All interior and exterior walls were built using recycled materials showcasing the local style of architecture.
Activities on offer here include orangutan viewing, volunteer work, hiking/animal watching, bird watching, row down the black river, enjoy a canopy bridge walk and more. All tours are led by local guides, very knowledgeable and enthusiastic.
