Reethi Beach Resort offers access to some of the finest diving you can experience from any resort in the Maldives. Located in the remote regions of the Baa Atoll Reethi benefits from having a number of uninhabited islands within view, many of which play host to truly spectacular diving. This is excellent manta territory – world famous Hanifaru Bay attracts big numbers and whilst you can now only snorkel in the lagoon they are often seen passing local reefs and islands in the vicinity. Possibilities of whaleshark are also good in comparison to the rest of the Maldives, particularly during the north east monsoon (June to September).
However our recommendation is to visit when the best diving can be found overall – during the South West monsoon when conditions are drier and the visibility is generally best (December to May). Topography ranges from channels and ‘Thilas’ (submerged reef) to colourful coral gardens with vibrant reefs, aside from the plentiful fish life you’re likely to encounter a number of different reef sharks during your outings including grey reef and white tips.
The house reef is also notable, Reethi Beach Resort staff will even deliver your tanks to your balcony to make the morning dives just a little more relaxing. On the east side there is a sandy lagoon with coral blocks which play host to morays, shrimps and octopus making it ideal for photographers. The west side is more exposed and attracts larger marine life.
At Reethi Beach Resort you can expect a laid back ambience with traditional style bungalows over water and set along the beach. The island itself is just 600 meters long and 300 meters, most of which has not been developed. There are a number of accommodation options and 5 different restaurants to choose from as well as a spa and wellness centre. We think makes for an ideal location for anyone looking for quality diving, perhaps in combination with a liveaboard, in a relaxed but beautiful setting.
