We recommend this 2 or 3 night trip Kalimantan extension to all nature lovers. Highlights include river cruising, sightings of wild orangutans as well as those in the research center, proboscis monkeys and several species of reptile and bird.
Upon arrival at Pangkalanbun Airport you will be greeted by our local guide and transferred to the Kumai port to board a local-style Klotok boat for a scenic journey along the Kumai and Sekonyer River.
While cruising through Tanjung Puting National Park, you can spot many wild tropical animals because the area is very ecologically diverse areas with mangrove swamps, rain forest and dense jungles filled with primates such as orangutans, proboscis monkeys and macaques as well as leopards, various lizards and more than 250 bird species.
Day time is spent visiting orangutan feeding stations, wildlife and bird spotting and slowly meandering down the river. At the feeding stations rangers bring fruits to wooden platforms inside the jungle. Slowly many Orangutans start coming from the jungle. Watching them going from branch to branch sometimes high up in the trees with agility and grace really is an unforgettable experience.
Late afternoon brings many proboscis monkeys, an endemic species of Kalimantan and easily
recognizable by their long red nose, close to the river banks to spend the night in large groups hanging in the trees.
The boats are quite simple but have comfortable mattresses, mosquito nets and toilets, and the crew are informative and helpful, and prepare delicious local -style meals for the guests.
