Palau, one of the most beautiful Pacific Island nations and one of our favourite places to snorkel. Widely known for its clear turquoise water, a proliferation of schooling fish, large pelagics, sharks and healthy reefs, this destination is truly spectacular.
Palau is one of the largest Marine Protected Areas in the world, encompassing 80% of the nation's waters which are completely protected from fishing and drilling. The waters have also been a designated shark sanctuary for almost 10 years, and as such shark species thrive.
Above water, the views are equally breathtaking, with lush green jungle covered small islands creating stunning channels and dramatic scenery. The country is a tiny speck in the ocean comprising of over 300 mostly uninhabited islets, with lush jungle growing on the limestone formations. Having been a pivotal strategic point during the war, there are many interesting historical sites to visit. Many sunken ships in the area have also left great dive and snorkel sites to explore, some of which are virtually artificial reefs now.
With over 700 fish species and more than 1500 coral species that inhabit these beautiful waters, the snorkeling is second to none - it's not dubbed 'the underwater Serengeti' for nothing.
This Snorkel Safari is liveabaord based- we have chartered the Palau Aggressor II for a 10 night cruise through the islands nation's spectacular waters. The charter is fully escorted by a member of the Snorkel Safari team.
