Mike’s Duain Dive Resort is a lovely small seaside resort- intimate, welcoming and well run. The owner, Mike, is on hand to host guests staying in one of 8 spacious ensuite rooms. The lagoon-style swimming pool is the perfect place to sunbath, and there is also a shallower kid’s pool for families to enjoy. The sunset bar is the perfect place to relax after a day’s diving.
Diving activities here include three dives a day. The custom built banca boat leaves from directly in front of the resort and travels to sites around Dauin, Apo Island, Oslob (for Whale Shark watching), Sumilon and Siquijor. The boat usually returns to the resort for lunch after two dives. Guests can then elect to do a lazy afternoon dive, a sunset dive in search of the elusive Manderin fish, or a night dive in the hopes of spotting some rare nocturnal hunters.
The diving on offer is very varied- Apo Island is known for lush reefs, turtles, sharks and schooling jacks. Oslob is known for frequent whale shark sightings, and snorkel tours. Duain is fast becoming known for some of Philippines best macro diving, with excellent chances to spot rare critters like sea horses, frogfish, flamboyant cuttlefish and blue ring octopus, to name a few. Sites around Sumilon and Siquijor are better known for walls, coral gardens and some fabulous muck diving.
The resort is about 15km south of Dumaguete which is easily accessible by plane and ferry.
