Atmosphere Resort is located at one of our favourite locations in the Philippines, offering access not only to Apo, Siquijor and Balicasag Islands but also the black sand slopes of Dauin province. The combination of diving on offer ranges from weird and wonderful critters to picturesque reefs and big schools of fish all backdropped by contrasting underwater vistas. The islands are reached by bangka boat from Atmosphere Resort, this being the preferred method of transport for Filipino’s when travelling the seas. These boats have been thoughtfully converted by the Atmosphere Resort team and make superb dive platforms – offering stability and space.
Apo Island offers the best of the reef diving, a school of resident jackfish can regularly been seen at the headland of the island when the currents pass through and at times brings in larger predators. On the inside the reef is spectacular with fields of hard and soft corals, turtles make for frequent sightings as do many species of reef fish being and protected sites tend to be slower paced and relaxing.
Almost in complete contrast to the island reefs the ‘muck diving’ around Dauin is surely some of the best you’ll find anywhere in the world with critter and invertebrates in abundance, making this ideal territory for photographers.
Atmosphere resort itself offers little touches of luxury, but in a modest and relaxed manor. Rooms have traditional style thatched roofs but boast beautifully designed interiors. The pool is shaded by overhanging palms and the beach bar offers a range of evening sun downers. It all feels a little bit special, just like the surrounding location.
