We searched high and low in the Philippines for a resort that could combine fine diving, personal service and a welcoming atmosphere – then we came across Atlantis Resort Dumaguete. Built in a glorious garden of indigenous trees and tropical foliage the setting could not be more perfect. There’s a seafront restaurant and bar for sunset gazing and refreshing drinks, the swimming pool makes for a great place to cool off or take wander around the grounds, passing lotus blossoms in the ponds.
Atlantis Dive Resort offers a number of different room types including deluxe and ocean view options, offering maximum comfort and privacy during your stay. Each features solar heated hot water, en suite bath rooms, individual climate control and mini bar.
The diving around Dumaguete is by all accounts superb and over the years has become a favorite destination of ours. Atlantis Resort offer up to 5 dives per day to the local shores and slopes of southern Negros Island. This is black volcanic sand territory and home to an abundance of critters and invertebrates that would be considered rare in other parts of the world. The house reef is just a few footsteps from the resort and offers flexibility into the schedule. You can dive as and when you like providing you take a buddy – ghost pipefish, frogfish and mimic octopus are not uncommon here and having the time and space to view and photograph these subjects is what makes diving here so special. The surrounding sites are no less impressive.
For the reef diving enthusiast you won’t be disappointed. Apo Island is situated 30 minutes away and offers colourful coral gardens, rich marine life and stunning underwater reefscapes. Siqiujor and Balicasag Islands are also within easy range and again offer picturesque reefs and contrasting topography to the black sand slopes around Negros and Atlantis Dive Resort. These islands are visited as 3 tank day trips from the resort. BBQ lunches are provided and there’ll be a chance to set foot on land and explore during surface intervals. Atlantis Dive Resort should appeal to anyone who likes a secluded location close to varied and well preserved dives sites.
