Step well off the beaten path with us in outback Indonesia, this tour takes us to south east Indonesia, the island of Alor. Here we visit Alami Alor. The resort was built with luxury and intimacy in mind, hence there are only 6 bungalows set on the otherwise deserted waterfront. Alami Alor offers a communal lounge and sundeck where guests can relax between dives or enjoy a sunset cocktail and discuss the day’s activities. The dining room serves family style buffet meals using fresh locally sourced ingredients where ever possible providing a variety of mains, veggies, soups, salads and desserts. This tour is fully guided by a member of the Dive Safari Asia team.
We have exclusive use of Alami Alor Resort, capacity is for 12 divers in total and we expect to have the reefs very much to ourselves also. Expect stunning underwater vistas, good opportunities for big pelagics such as sharks, mola mola and schooling jacks and barracuda.
We’ve planned this trip around the full moon, just after which there are excellent chances of seeing schooling hammerheads at a particular secret spot found by owners Max and Lauren. All this combined with superb muck diving sites located in front of the resort and at neighboring sites up the coastline.
Situated in the Coral Triangle, diving from Alami Alor offers an opportunity to enjoy several kinds of dive experiences from one stunning location, in an uncrowded environment. The reefs here have not been exposed to destructive fishing practices such as dynamite or cyanide fishing. Thus there are clear water dives over beautifully preserved reefs where one can see a diverse variety of coral, fish, sharks and other tropical marine life; as well as slow meanders over volcanic slopes hunting for bizarre and fascinating critters. It is not unreasonable to expect to see a variety of life ranging from pygmy seahorses, nudibranchs and rhynopia, to schools of barracuda and rainbow runners, to mola-mola and hammerhead sharks. There is literally something for everyone.
After our days enjoying diving from Alami Alor Resort, we travel together to Jogjakarta where we will spend a night at the fabulous Phoenix Hotel. From here will enjoy a city tour. This includes visiting the Kraton (a walled city of about 25000 people, including the current Sultan), water castle (also known as “the garden of the Sultan”) and Prambanan Temple complex (a complex consisting of 240 temples circa 8th century AD). From here will transfer by car to the exquisite Plataran Hotel, about an hour away, where we will spend the remaining nights of the tour. From here we will enjoy the sunrise over Borobudur, as well as a Candirejo Village excursion.
