A recent report by scientists confirmed that Thresher Sharks do actually stun their prey by using their whip like tail, this has long been suspected to be honest as the shape and size (almost half the length of it’s body) of the tail would certainly lend itself to this style of behavior. The research was carried out off the coast of eastern Cebu in the Philippines, Pescador Island is home to a swarm of sardines which attract the predators, Threshers were recorded on more than 60 occasions to use their tail as a weapon and stun the prey. Gutsy Tuason has been a resident of Malapascua Island for many years and has managed catch some of the finest images of Threshers around, this island at the northern tip of Cebu offers regular encounters with Thresher Sharks and is a region we visit on our Philippines Island Safari. read the article and see a video on the BBC website here – http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-23245791
