Once again DSA sent me somewhere I would never have considered going. Once again the trip delivered on all fronts. We were delighted when we landed at Komodo resort, it was perfect for us. I can certainly say we never went hungry and the full menu to choose from for lunch and dinner was unexpected. The outdoor (but covered ) nature of the restaurant on the beach was gorgeous.
The exclusive nature of the resort made us feel special, so did the wonderful local staff. We loved sitting on a bean bag with cocktails and nibbles watching the sunset, wonderfully romantic.
The snorkeling was fabulous, as promised by Ben.
The room was kept spotless and the drinking water was regularly refreshed. The bed was lovely and comfortable. The air con was a blessing and we liked the fact that the resort tries to minimise use of plastic bottles. The water went off a couple of times but only briefly while it was being piped up to the water tanks. I was expecting far more disruption to the bathroom water supply having done some research on the time of year to visit but the resort is very well organised.
The diving – stunning. Pete saw his first sharks and was just as captivated as I promised him he would be. Coral was stunning, fish life diverse and plentiful. We were also lucky enough to have two amazing manta ray experiences. One actually left the cleaning station when we did and glided in amongst the four of us. It was a fantastic feeling to know that we had experienced it”s without disturbing it.
Pete has still done less than 40 dives and he has now seen numerous types of shark, manta rays, a wunderpuss, Flamboyant cuttlefish, a gorgeous little sea moth, robust ghost pipefish, sea horse,……. . I could go on. Suffice to say we have been incredibly lucky. The currents I dreaded so much because of Peter’s lack of experience only caused me concern once but he took it in his stride!.
This leads me on to the dive guides. Due to the nature of the resort some of the senior staff seemed to be available 18 hours a day. We mostly dived with Marcus and I had complete confidence in him, but he was also good fun and knowledgeable, The guides were all great and the boat staff were also very good.
When Ben suggested Komodo as an alternative to Raja Ampat I was not fully convinced but I trusted his judgement and he really came up trumps. We were looking for the holiday of a lifetime and DSA and Komodo Resort delivered that.
