Venture with us through remote Indonesia, our Sumatra tour will surely quench your thirst for adventure. Leave behind the swimming pools, souvenir bizarre’s and tourist trappings – Sumatra is altogether different.
Once we’ve met in Kuala Lumpur we transfer to Pulau Weh, a volcanic island on the north western tip of Sumatra. Located at the meeting point of the Indian Ocean and the Andaman Sea, deep oceanic channels bring nutrient rich waters which support the abundance of marine life found below the surface. Schooling jacks, reef sharks and barracuda make for common sightings whilst there’s always the chance of something bigger appearing out of the blue.
The underwater terrain offers stupendous landscapes with plunging walls, huge boulders, overhangs and plateaus all featuring throughout the 20 plus dive sites that are within easy reach of the resort. The house reef offers all manner of weird and wonderful specimens and can be dived at your leisure, just grab a buddy and go – it’s a photographers dream with a huge range of macro subjects all located within a sheltered bay – ghost pipefish, star gazers, frogfish make up the usual suspects.

The second part of the trip we head to central Sumatra for close encounters with wild Orangutans, jungle trekking and rafting. Away from the crowds and beyond the tourist facade found in other parts of the world this style of experience will appeal to divers looking to escape the predictability of resort or liveaboard based itineraries. For nature lovers, culture enthusiasts and avid divers looking to get there first Sumatra will appeal.
