We made a recent trip to the Philippines and Malapascua Island to dive with Thresher Sharks and can thoroughly recommend it. Otherwise elusive and shy this mystical shark regularly shows up at Monad Shoal – a 30 minute boat ride from Malapascua. The dive starts by descending down a line to the shoals’ plateau at around 18m. It’s then a bit of a waiting game, there’s some coral and plenty of other life but it makes more sense to look out into the blue. Our first dive we missed them, the other group were lucky, however we had two large devil rays circle us. We returned the next day and were pleased to spend 20 minutes as one circled and passed us by, making full use of the cleaner fish. Exotic Dive Resort and Malapascua also offers day trips to local dive sites and makes a great all round location to dive with big fish and macro critters.
