Both resorts were a ‘1’ excellent. And the trip as a whole was a ‘1’excellent. Everything went like clockwork, transfers etc. If we went again we would use both resorts. The rooms at Mikes were basic but still light and airy and nice. And the food and staff were excellent. The resort itself was also just right. The room at Fisherman’s Cove, Puerto Galera, was outstanding!! Again the staff were excellent and we were well looked after by Giuseppe. The food there was also excellent.
If I was to compare the diving, I would have to say that Puerto Galera comes out on top. While there was some nice muck diving at Dauin with plenty of small creatures there seemed to be less fish and less sites. Saying that we did see an enormous school of jacks just hanging on the reef on one dive. Apo Island had the best diving that we saw in this area, I don’t think I’ve seen such huge areas of healthy coral and we saw some nice turtles there.
In general the thing that struck me about the dives in the Philippines were the sheer quantity of the rarer creatures. What I mean is I’ve seen frog fish and ornate ghost pipe fish and flamboyant cuttlefish before, but not in these quantities. And also we saw many fish and critters which I had never seen before.
In short Ben, great trip from start to finish.
