We went to Alor and Komodo in May with Maggie Russel. We had an amazing holiday and a fabulous time.
The diving is outstanding in both locations and offers muck, wall, big fish, drift and night diving – all superb in terms of the marine life, its abundance and variety, stunning colours and, very often, excellent visibility. We saw quite a few creatures that we’ve never seen before, including Wunderpus, Rhinopias, pigmy seahorse, juvenile batfish, some new nudibranchs, crabs and shrimps.
Both resorts are very good and well suited for scuba divers. Everything works, air con is quiet and efficient, rooms are clean and comfortable. The food was excellent, fresh and tasty with very good selection. The menu in Komodo was so appealing that some of us ended up having six-course dinners 🙂 including two deserts! The views from resorts are stunning with spectacular sunsets.
The dive centres are great with friendly and knowledgeable staff and good facilities. It would have been nice to have Nitrox, but we managed fine on air. The dive guides are brilliant, professional with a wealth of local knowledge and sharp eyes! There was never more than four of us per guide, which was very good.
The trip was well organised in terms of itineraries, local flights, transfers and excursion to see the Komodo dragons! Maggie is brilliant. She looked after us really well, from help and advice with photography to checking-in all our bags and handing out cookies in the airport! She had a box full of pills, plasters and sprays, which was an excellent idea as some of the contents were consumed by us. We cannot thank her enough!
We would definitely recommend this trip to anyone and would visit Alor and Komodo again.
