I am lucky enough to be leading a group trip to the fabulous Alor and Komodo in October where we will be staying at two magnificent resorts- Alami Alor, and then Komodo Resort.
Here is a list of the things I most hope to see on this tour:
Hammerhead sharks – at new moon and full mooon, schooling hammerhead sharks can often be seen near Alami Alor. We plan our trips there with this in mind. When I was there in April we saw over 40 sharks really close up.
Octopus- Wonderpus is my favourite, followed closely by Blue Ringed and Mimic. But I am a massive fan of these shape shifters.
Manta Rays- Komodo is one of the best known places to see manta rays year around. Sometimes they congregate in groups, and seem not to be shy of people, allowing us to often have close encounters, absolutely gorgeous.
Komodo Dragon- never to be overlooked, this prehistoric lizard is beautiful and scarey all at the same time. I look forward to a hike on the island of Rinca to look for them in the wild.
Flamboyant Cuttlefish- one of my favourite creatures, albeit not often spotted, Komodo provides a good chance of seeing these psychedelic pulsating creatures.
Rhynopia – one of the critters Alor has become well known for, rynopia are prolific here, reletive to other places. I love these fish with their intricate patterns and elongated noses.
