Atlantis Resort lies south of the town of Dumaguete on the Island of Negros in the southern Visayas, it’s perhaps one of our favorite resorts in the region, partly because of the friendly service offered by the crew but also because of the range of diving on offer here. There’s superb reefs to be found around the neighboring island of Apo and Siquijor whilst closer to home you’ve got black sand muck dives as good as anywhere you’ll find in Indonesia. The shore dive which is in fact directly in front of the resort is fabulous and home to a staggering abundance of decorated critters, at 5m there’s a field of sea grass where frogfish and octopus like to spend their time whilst the deeper sections consist of a bommie and artificial reef covered in fans and feather stars making it very attractive indeed. Nudibranchs, ghost pipefish and morays are common and this is great location for anyone who needs a little extra time with the camera. Apo is a volcanic island around 45mins by boat from the resort, the inside reefs are comprised of pristine hard coral slopes whilst the outer sections drop away more dramatically and tend to offer more action in the current. Siquijor again offers something slightly different with plunging walls sections and the chance of turtles and pelagcics, full day trips can also be made to Balicasag which offers more variety in the reefs on offer. The staff at Atlantis are incredibly friendly, getting to know your name on the first day and greeting you in the morning makes all the difference, they manage to make your stay feel very personal and we’re looking forward to a return visit.
