Well aside from the friendly locals, stunning topside scenery & classic island beaches there’s a dizzying wealth of diving to be had.
Malapascua is located at the northern end of of the Visayas Island group and offers one of the only places in the world where it’s possible to get regular face to face sightings with Thresher Sharks, there’s also some great reef diving to be had in the area – see Exotic Dive Resort. Pescador Island is located close to Moal Boal and is home to rich reefs, giant turtles and perhaps the main attraction – a huge school of sardines that often block the sunlight overhead. Bigger fish can appear here with occassional reef and whaleshark sightings – the Philippine Siren offers itineraries to this region
Further south is Dumaguete, home of Atlantis Dive Resort. For muck diving enthusiasts this is a dream destination with a fantastic house reef thats home to all manor of rare and exquisite marine life – frogfish, ghost pipefish, flamboyant cuttlefish and many more make for excitingly regular sightings. Just a 30 minute boat ride is Apo Island which offers fine reef diving, beautiful underwater landscapes and stacks of marine life.
Finally, perhaps the jewel in the crown of Philippine diving are the outer reefs of the Tubattaha. Located in the remote territories of the Sulu Sea expect genuinely pristine reefs, big fish and wild and remote diving. We have a number of liveaboards that can get you to this area in comfort and safety. Of course if you want to create something of your own (we recommend island hopping in the southern region) then feel free to get in touch and pick our brains for our own personal suggestions, we’ve got some exciting options up our sleeve!
Located in its private corner of Moal Boal we think Magic Island makes for the perfect tropical escape.
