The Team

Paul "Duxy" Duxfield
Tour leader and Photography Pro

"Duxy" has developed the knack for sharing his knowledge and helping demystify photography for many, using humour and anecdotes to deliver the information. He has already escorted more than 40 international dive safaris, and is as happy dealing with a GoPro or compact camera as he is with those shooting with high end underwater photography kit. He is available with unbiased advise on appropriate equipment and offers many tips about gear setup, maintenance, shooting and editing.
He loves the quirkier side of marine biology too and has a couple of new talks up his sleeve looking at the fascinating world that us divers regularly encounter.

Maggie Russell
Tour Leader

Maggie joined the team in 2013 and has since lead tours to Raja Ampat, Sulawesi, Maldives, Komodo & Alor. With a passion for underwater photography and weird and wonderful marine life Maggie loves to explore remote parts of Indonesia. maggie@divesafariasia.com

Bernita Lewin
Operations Manager and Tour Leader

Bernita is our supreme trip leader, manager of operations and all round logistics super star. She worked as a dive guide and instructor in Asia for 5 years, clocking up thousands of dives before joining our team.  Look out for big smiles and bags of enthusiasm when on tour with Bernita. bernita@divesafariasia.com

Ben Stokes
Co Founder

Ben dived and travelled around the world for 10 years before setting up Dive Safari Asia, working as a dive guide and instructor. Still trip leading, still diving and still loving life, just from south west of England, not Asia! ben@divesafariasia.com

Sarah Kemsley
Co Founder

Sarah carried a set of scuba equipment around the world for many years before returning to Blighty to set up Dive Safari Asia with Ben. She loves nothing more that scrabbling around the black sand slopes of Indonesia looking for weird marine life. sarah@divesafariasia.com

Us 2

‘At Dive Safari Asia we love being a part of your travels. Taking a piece of inspiration from an idea to an exciting experience is why we adore what we do.
We launched in 2010, following 9 years working as dive guides and instructors in locations across the Caribbean and the Middle East, to the south Pacific and most extensively, Asia.

During a trip with family members we came up with the idea of leading groups to off the beaten track locations. Starting with a single tour in Northern Sumatra we’ve now expanded across the Asia Pacific region.
Our range of experiences now includes guide based tours and tailormade holidays throughout Indonesia, Philippines, Micronesia, Maldives and Papua New Guinea.

To this day we continue to immerse ourselves in some of the world’s finest diving regions, for us experience is everything’.

What our clients say...

  • Our trip was absolutely fantastic. Literally awesome.
Our experience of booking our trip through DSA has also been brilliant. From Ben’s initial help in deciding where to go and costing it all up right through to resolving last minute issues (like the luggage allowance on the flight out and organising the hotel room in Jakarta on the last day), you guys have been awesome - responsive, helpful, knowledgeable and friendly throughout. We couldn’t have asked for more!
All in all we had the most amazing trip - we wanted it to be the dive trip of a lifetime and it really was. Thank you so so much.

  • The group safari to Alor and Komodo was fantastic- superb accommodation, diving and guide.  The staff very friendly and helpful. The accommodation was lovely and set in a nice secluded location, the food was exceptional.
Bernita, we couldn’t have asked for a better guide above and below the water she was fantastic, organised, professional, friendly and efficient. She organised a birthday cake for Rosie, which I had not even thought about. If your other trips and locations are as good as this one we would not hesitate in booking another trip in the future.

  • I think it would be fair to say everyone had a great time and a big thank you to you all at Dive Safari Asia and to Mike’s Dive Resort for a truly memorable trip. Everything went so smoothly, including the transfers, the diving and the land based ATV experience. The staff at the hotel were very accommodating and we had a great last night with the dive team bringing their guitars and singing – beers all round were on us. Thank you so much for organising such a great trip. It really was one to remember. If we do a shore based trip again, I will certainly be contacting you to arrange it.

  • We went to Alor and Komodo in May with Maggie Russel.  We had an amazing holiday and a fabulous time. The diving is outstanding in both locations and offers muck, wall, big fish, drift and night diving – all superb in terms of the marine life, its abundance and variety, stunning colours and, very often, excellent visibility.  We saw quite a few creatures that we’ve never seen before, including Wunderpus, Rhinopias, pigmy seahorse, juvenile batfish, some new nudibranchs, crabs and shrimps. The trip was well organised in terms of itineraries, local flights, transfers and excursion to see the Komodo dragons!  Maggie is brilliant.  She looked after us really well, from help and advice with photography to checking-in all our bags and handing out cookies in the airport!  We cannot thank her enough!

  • Once again DSA sent me somewhere I would never have considered going. Once again the trip delivered on all fronts. The exclusive nature of the resort made us feel special, so did the wonderful local staff. We loved sitting on a bean bag with cocktails and nibbles watching the sunset, wonderfully romantic. The diving – stunning. Pete saw his first sharks and was just as captivated as I promised him he would be. Coral was stunning, fish life diverse and plentiful. We were also lucky enough to have two amazing manta ray experiences. One actually left the cleaning station when we did and glided in amongst the four of us. It was a fantastic feeling to know that we had experienced it”s without disturbing it. When Ben suggested Komodo as an alternative to Raja Ampat I was not fully convinced but I trusted his judgement and he really came up trumps. We were looking for the holiday of a lifetime and DSA and Komodo Resort delivered that.

  • Just wanted to drop you a quick email to say thanks so much for such a fantastic holiday. The whole experience, from the first phone contact at the beginning, through to saying goodbye at Bali airport at the end, was superbly organised and expertly delivered.  Bernita, you made the whole experience an absolute joy and it was so much fun to dive and hang out with you. Just wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed everything and I’ll definitely be checking out a trip with you next year

  • We loved it!
And we are in awe of you both. Here’s some of the things we really appreciated –
Ben we think you did an amazing job with the organisation, Komodo rekindled our love of dive holidays – absolutely a top class resort for the accommodation, food and service. The room was fantastic and small touches like the free mini bar were unexpected treats on top, We realised Bernita had no responsibility for us – but none the less she was really friendly and we were hugely impressed with how she tried to get the very best diving experience for her people  ( which we benefited from!), The D’Uma  Bali was an absolute joy,
We also went with the guide Rocky to a local traditional market which was a great experience, we had a cooking lesson and they taught us how to make temple offerings with flowers and folding leaves – explaining what it all meant.
So  very big thank you from two very happy customers.

  • Just wanted to say a big ‘Thank You’ to you for arranging our trip. We both had an amazing time in both the Tasik Ria and Papua Paradise Resorts. All of the staff at both resorts were really great, friendly and accommodating. The food was lovely and the diving was superb, making my birthday really memorable.
    Lesley and Rik, November 2017
  • We had a fabulous time, amazing diving and a great company. Bernita is brilliant, - professional, friendly, helpful and a great fun to be with. We really enjoyed her company and appreciated how well she looked after us all.

  • A truly excellent trip! Probably my favourite so far..The reef/macro diving in PG was exceptional and I thought every dive offered something different. Sangat was a different level in terms of location and diving. Just amazing. The last day diving was one of the best I think I've ever had - both wrecks were spectacular and having a beer on the boat on the way back made a great way to end the trip. I think we all enjoyed the amount of diving inside the wrecks which we haven't done too much of previously.
